Doll Show

Annual Doll Show is planned. President's house is remodeled.

The Debating squad packs a full schedule for the spring, including the annual triangular debate with Gettysburg and Muhlenberg. The junior class has decided to dedicate the 1929 Microcosm to William Weidman Landis, Professor of Mathematics and Astronomy. Dr. Samuel Parkers Cadman, President of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America and well-known public speaker, will come to speak at Dickinson on Jan. 13th. The stylings of master impersonator William Sterling Battis are well received by students. The College Orchestra struggles with Chapel music.

Carlisle has a practice air raid, an article lists the improvements that Carlisle needs to make. Robert C. Deitz '41 is the first person from Dickinson believed to be lost in World War II--he is reported as missing in action and presumed to be dead. Dickinson's Board of Trustees has approved the plan to purchase $85,000 of United States Defense Bonds for the endowment fund. Article on how students, specifically the residents of Metzger Hall, are dealing with the United States' declaration of war. A University of Texas poll reveals that 50% of girls want to become housewives.

Fraternities, the All-College Social Committee, and other clubs prepare for the Annual Doll Dance and Doll Show.  Student Senate alters election procedures.  Elmer C. Herber speaks on "The Heart and Its Functions" to Lambda Sigma Pi, the science fraternity.  Belles Lettres initiates new members in ceremony.  Union Philosophical Society to give a cup to the winner of an All-College Oratorical Contest.  French Club holds its Christmas party at the S.A.E. house.  Eight teams remain in inter-fraternity debate contest.  Col.

Young People's Fellowship ended year by caroling and visiting shut-ins in the Carlisle area. Doll Show to feature faculty skit and "surprise" faculty member as Santa, as well as annual dance; dolls collected to go to prisoners' daughters in New York and to children at the Shiremanstown Methodist Home for Children. Editorial urges better sportsmanship at athletic events.

A short history of the traditional Doll Show and dance appears in anticipation of the year's event. The Upsilon Circle of the Omicron Delta Kappa society taps a total of 8 men, 6 seniors and 2 juniors. Dickinson's women plan a party for the underprivileged children of Carlisle. Dickinson holds a small display of Cervantes works in the library. A new system is introduced for managerial awards and honors for college sports.
