The Freshman Annex (formerly the Parker House) on S Hanover St opens to house twelve female students. Colonel Henry E. Smith, John C. Hepler, Dr. Bernice K. Grubb, Charles H. B. Kennedy, and Jane L. Evans join faculty. Dr. Elmer C. Herber publishes two papers on parasitology. Professor Horace E. Rogers leads Community Chest drive; changes to the way the drive is performed. Robert S. Whitman, Jr., '38, dies at Battle of Midway; Calvert S. Foote, '44, is MIA. Football team is largest in Dickinson history. The Navy V-1 Plan is established at Dickinson.

Dean M. Hoffman and Boyd Lee Spahr '00 address the College at the annual Founders' Day kickoff. Five of the original ten students taking flight classes from the Civil Aeronautics Authority receive recreational flying licenses, with the other five on track to earn them at a later date. W. Roberts Pedrick '40 is tapped as graduate assistant to the Biology department in light of the resignation of Elmer C. Herber, who is leaving campus to pursue a PhD at Johns Hopkins.

The Athletic Association elects a new president, but protests the lack of publicity regarding the elections, blaming Student Senate for the poor turnout. The Biology department, under the leadership of Elmer Herber and the Mohler Scientific Club, presents three films relating to the study of cancer but are interdisciplinary. At the faculty meeting it is decided that preliminary examinations will be done away with beginning immediately to lessen the work for both students and their professors.

Fraternities, the All-College Social Committee, and other clubs prepare for the Annual Doll Dance and Doll Show.  Student Senate alters election procedures.  Elmer C. Herber speaks on "The Heart and Its Functions" to Lambda Sigma Pi, the science fraternity.  Belles Lettres initiates new members in ceremony.  Union Philosophical Society to give a cup to the winner of an All-College Oratorical Contest.  French Club holds its Christmas party at the S.A.E. house.  Eight teams remain in inter-fraternity debate contest.  Col.

Professor Elmer C. Herber receives grant from American Philosophical Society to write a biography of Spencer Fullerton Baird. College receives two ancient building stones from Carlisle, England; they are placed on display in Bosler lobby. Professor Whitfield J. Bell, Jr., receives grant from American Philosophical Society to compile and edit a collection of Benjamin Franklin's letters. Student Senate makes recommendations for reducing cheating.

An honor code will be introduced to new freshmen starting next semester as requested by many students. Methodist churches of the Central Pennsylvania Conference will observe college day, meaning that they will focus on the idea of Christian Education. Students and faculty of Dickinson will go speak at 56 churches on behalf of this event. Dr. William Sloane's book on children's literature has been so widely accepted and praised by critics that it requires a second printing. Dr. Elmer Herber, professor of biology, receives the Darbecker Award from the Pennsylvania Academy of Science.

A member of the Biology Department, Dr. Elmer Herber, and one of his previous students, Howard Kline, are published in the 1954 edition of "Proceedings of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science" for their work with antibiotics. The Board of Trustees decides to allow seniors who do not meet their graduation requirements in time for their graduation to graduate as soon as they finish them instead of having to wait until the following June to do so. The Board also is looking into adding two more fraternities to campus to increase the strength of the fraternity program on campus.

Professor Larry Warner encourages student participation in a Labor's United Worker's strike at the on the Carlisle Tire and Rubber Company, and 30 to 75 students did participate in the participate in the protest outside of the factory. Dickinson received a loan from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for a new dormitory. Peter Frankl, the Hungarian pianist, is slated to play Friday night at Carlisle High School.

Prof. Joseph H. Schiffman receives Fullbright to teach at University of Bordeaux. Charles Abrams speaks at Public Affairs Symposium. Fine Arts Festival features Gershwin Operetta "Of Thee I Sing". College to appear on the General Electric College Bowl. Dionne Warwick to appear in College Union. Follies end "Once upon a Mattress". Latin American critic and writer Emir Rodriguez-Monegal to speak. Dr. Elmer Herber named honorary collaborator of the Smithsonian Institute.
