Dean M. Hoffman and Boyd Lee Spahr '00 address the College at the annual Founders' Day kickoff. Five of the original ten students taking flight classes from the Civil Aeronautics Authority receive recreational flying licenses, with the other five on track to earn them at a later date. W. Roberts Pedrick '40 is tapped as graduate assistant to the Biology department in light of the resignation of Elmer C. Herber, who is leaving campus to pursue a PhD at Johns Hopkins.

Wheel and Chain elects new members.  Founders' Day and May Day are celebrated.  Representatives to Men's Student Senate are elected.  The results of a survey of Dickinson students' attitudes toward naval armaments are reported.

A new defense course will be taught at Dickinson. Article on the history of the library. Article about students that left to help with forest fires, but they never found the fires. Article on a historian's opinion on American and war throughout history. Students involved with the Dickinson chapter of the American Red Cross knit afghans and mufflers for soldiers. Article about the movies on Saturday afternoons.

Dr. Popenoe, Director of the Institute of Family Relations in Los Angeles, holds a marriage clinic during chapel. Mal Hallet and his nationally famous orchestra will play at the Commencement Ball. Details of Founders' Day event. Dickinson Baseball defeats Mt. St. Mary's in Guest Day match. Track team beats Susquehanna and breaks two records.

Delegates from Dickinson College attend the Inter-Collegiate Government Conference in Harrisburg. Members of the Dickinson Dramatic Club present "Swamp Spirit" at the Cultural Olympics in Philadelphia. Student athlete Kinzie Weimer receives the Jacob Cohen, Phi Epsilon Pi trophy. Premier concert baritone, John Charles Thomas gives a concert in Carlisle. Dickinson alum Colonel William A. Ganoe to speak at Founders' Day event.

Annual Student Art Exhibit opens. Students debate joining the National Student Association. Milo Vondracek presented talk on current conditions in Poland and Czechoslovakia, showing images of damage sustained during World War II. Dickinson College Band to present first concert of the season at chapel, with sophomore Lois Price as soloist. Interfraternity Council Weekend to kick-off next week with series of dinners, to be followed by discussions. Essay contest to be held in conjunction with Founders' Day. 100% of "D" Club Dance profit given to Paralysis Fund.

Coach Dave Kirk of the Physical Education Department announces that he will resign his post at the end of the year in order to take a job at Friend's Central School in Philadelphia. The Spring Formal, scheduled for the night of publication, will feature two bands and follow a Spring Garden Party theme. In a special Founders' Day convocation ceremony, the College will award honorary degrees to Nora May Mohler and Judge Dorothy Kenyon. The Hornbook, The Belles Lettres Society's literary publication, will go on sale the following week.
