Dickinson College Band

The editors respond to the band controversy.  John F. Howard's Shakespearean recital proves to be a disgrace.  "Old Jack" longtime and beloved janitor in Old East college dies.  Civic Club plans its last entertainment of the year, a lecture by Rev. Samuel Parkes Cadman. 

Washington's Birthday banquet a successful evening.  Fresmhan smoker is held.  Kappa Sigma holds a dance in Assembly Hall.  Some upperclassmen respond to the Band's article of the previous week.  The trustees hold their usual midwinter meeting in Philadelphia.

All college feed planned for February 22nd.  Mr. John F. Howard to give a recital of "Julius Caesar."  Civic Club holds a lecture on "Storm Heroes of our Coast" by the Hon. Arthur K. Peck.  The college band announces it will now require payment for playing at non-athletic events and rebuffs accusations of lack of school spirit.  New college bulletin is issued.  Any interested are invited to participate in the Carlisle Oratorio Society's production of "Samson and Delilah". 

Former Dickinson Professor Major James Evelyn Pilcher dies in Georgia, President Reed leads funeral. Deutcher Verein hold first meeting of the semester. Doctor Crider treats the band to a banquet. Student writes his "Thoughts of Mark Twain" Student saves a robin whos feet had been tangled in string.

Prominent educators and public men prepare to take part in the inauguration ceremony of Mervin G. Filler, the eighteenth president of "Old Dickinson".  Clarence A. Welliver is elected as student leader of college band.  William S. Bender wins oratorical contest held in Belles Lettres Hall for his speech on "Lincoln and the Constitution".

Professor J.F. Mohler leads the Scientific Club in studying the heavens via powerful telescopes.  Professor Leon C. Prince thanks the school band for their assistance in a campaign visit to Duncannon.  Senior William R. Smith and his Sigma Chi fraternity brothers direct traffic and return a deer to Mooreland Park after a blizzard on the previous Friday, April 27th.

Dickinson College Band to play open-air concert; community sing to be part of concert. High School seniors to compete for Trustee Scholarships. Student musicians Robert Johannes and Joseph Rosenthal present concert in Bosler Hall. Pi Beta Phi wins Songfest competition. New plans for rushing have been presented to the faculty. Student Senate proposes fraternity-based scholarship plan to help foreign students study in the US. Little Theater's Othello opens. Concerns and complaints about Carlisle are addressed by student William Jordan.

Annual Student Art Exhibit opens. Students debate joining the National Student Association. Milo Vondracek presented talk on current conditions in Poland and Czechoslovakia, showing images of damage sustained during World War II. Dickinson College Band to present first concert of the season at chapel, with sophomore Lois Price as soloist. Interfraternity Council Weekend to kick-off next week with series of dinners, to be followed by discussions. Essay contest to be held in conjunction with Founders' Day. 100% of "D" Club Dance profit given to Paralysis Fund.
