The cornerstone of Morgan Hall is laid with items inside of it: "History of Dickinson College" by Dr. James Henry Morgan, a Dickinsonian, a college catalogue, a Microcosm, a copy of the alumni journal, a "D" book, student roster, Viewbook, Carlisle Sentinel and a folder from the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce. Seventeen ROTC cadets have been assigned to their specialized branches of the service. Dickinson receives an electron microscope from Mr. George Shuman and RCA which is now in Tome.

Dickinson College and Dickinson Law School have developed a combined elective program to allow students who may be interested in pursuing law, but aren’t certain, to take some classes. This way they will not have to pay for graduate school if they decide the career is not for them. New study abroad options are now available in Cuba and Austria for students through the Dean of Men. The chair of the English Department of Dickinson College, Dr. William Sloane, writes a book entitled Children’s Books in England and America in the Seventeenth Century.

A time capsule is laid in the corner stone of Morgan Hall as it is being built. Classes are let out early for this ceremonious occasion. An anonymous organization donates $50,000 to the building of a new student activities center. Women's fraternities Chi Omega, Zeta Tau Alpha, Phi Mu and Pi Beta Phi pledge 73 freshmen girls. The Placement Office of Dickinson College opens its doors to seniors looking for job opportunities post-graduation. Several new classes are added to the 1956 course catalog including a introductory course in the social sciences all freshmen will be required to take.

Union Philosophical Society debates the need for an honor code at Dickinson. The speakers for Religion-In-Life Week are all set up and so is a tentative schedule. This is an important event to most of the campus. Various musical acts from jazz bands to singers will be coming to campus.

The new men's dormitory will be named after James Henry Morgan, three-time president of Dickinson and "savior of the college". In days before Christmas break, there was a contest held to see which class could donate the most dolls to give to prisoners' children in New York City. The sophomore girls won the contest. The Dean of Men at Dickinson College, Amos Horlacher, is elected to fill the pulpit vacancy at the Unitarian Church of Harrisburgh, previously being the assistant minister at this church. Dr.

Five students from the Reserve Officers Training Corps receive the Distinguished Military Student recognition which will give them the same rank as a graduate of the United States Military Academy if and when they apply for commission in the army after graduation. Classes in painting and design will be offered next spring by a freelance artist affiliated with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Cheltenham Art Center.

A member of the Biology Department, Dr. Elmer Herber, and one of his previous students, Howard Kline, are published in the 1954 edition of "Proceedings of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science" for their work with antibiotics. The Board of Trustees decides to allow seniors who do not meet their graduation requirements in time for their graduation to graduate as soon as they finish them instead of having to wait until the following June to do so. The Board also is looking into adding two more fraternities to campus to increase the strength of the fraternity program on campus.

The four women's fraternities on campus will be holding their winter dances this weekend to honor the senior girls. Zeta Tau Alpha will be holding a songfest next week to raise money for cerebral palsy and cerebral palsy awareness. The Student-Faculty Judicial Council is created by the administration, faculty and Student Senate to hear and decide student disciplinary problems. This is a step toward student self-governing and allows accused students to appeal to their peers in addition to administration and faulty.

The Mermaid Players announce their next production. "Our Town" will be performed December 1, 2 and 3 in Bosler Hall. The Aquatic Club is performing later this evening their interpretation of popular children's stories. The entire production is student produced from scenery and lights to costumes and publicity. The Alumni Council agreed to take action on athletic policies as requested by students in the previous issue of the Dickinsonian with the support of the Board of Trustees.

It is Homecoming Weekend and the 100 anniversary of the birth of John Philip Sousa. The halftime entertainment for the Homecoming Game will be a Sousa tribute highlighting some of his most famous marches with many piccolo solos and displays of national symbols. There will also be a pep rally Friday on Biddle Field for Homecoming, an alumni luncheon on Saturday afternoon and the dance later that night featuring a 12 piece band. There is a push for an alumni organization that will support the athletic program at Dickinson.
