Class elections occur and fewer members of the freshman and sophomore class cast votes than anticipated. The Dickinsonian undergoes printing changes including being printed on new paper that will better highlight photographs. Homecoming weekend is next weekend, events including the alumni dinner, homecoming game and homecoming dance. The Union Philosophical Society will be hosting the Intercollegiate Conference on Government which will being about 200 delegates to Dickinson College to learn how the government operates.

The '55 Microcosm is being prepared so that it will be released by May 15. In addition to the usual content of senior portraits, family portraits, organizations, fraternities and sports articles, there will be a "features" section and a whole new layout. The Christian Service Project chapter of Dickinson College will headed to a few stops in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to teach Sunday School classes, attend worship services and participate in a panel for a Youth Fellowship meeting. Freshmen hazing nears its end with the introduction of a new group who controls hazing rules.

The Admissions Test for Graduate School in Business will be offered this coming year as more schools require it for entrance into their graduate programs. Irvine Smith, the Director of Debate at Dickinson, is elected Vice President of the Debating Association of Pennsylvania Colleges. There is a push to change the premise of Parents' Day to highlight the inner workings of a liberal arts college rather than simply have a schedule of events that shows what life is like at the college.

Rush ends and 126 freshmen men pledge fraternities including Alpha Chi Rho, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Sigma, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Epsilon Pi, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi and Theta Chi. The Dickinson Law School begins to require all applicants for admission to take the Law School Admissions Test. The annual trip to the UN is scheduled for October 17 and 18 which will allow students to attend a General Assembly session. A new Methodist church is being built on Benjamin Rush Campus. Parents' Day will be observed on October 16.

Outstanding visiting preachers will be visiting the chapel for worship services. Dickinson is holding a tax workshop to give business executives, bank representatives and other interested people a chance to familiarize themselves with new tax laws. These tax revisions are the greatest revisions in the history of federal taxation. The Mermaid Players will be performing "Lo and Behold" on Parents' Weekend (October 14-16) in Bosler Hall. Beginning October 6, music programs will be taking place daily in the Sharp Room in the library. This week there will be a piano quintet and a symphony.

There will be three new buildings built on campus including a new men's dormitory, chemistry building and student activities center. The Dickinson College Student Counseling Program is implemented to help new Freshmen get used to life in college. The student counselors live with the Freshmen in their dormitories and help them acquire good study habits and become acquainted with the college's rules and regulations. The first article in a series regarding the current European situation is published, discussing nationalistic fraternities in Germany.

Over 1000 students, alumni, and guests are expected to attend the weekend's Commencement exercises, at which Bishop G. Bromley Oxnam is the key speaker. The College announces that it will award 8 honorary degrees, and that an additional 15 seniors have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor fraternity. Anne Bennethum '25 exhibits 29 original artworks in Bosler Hall. The lacrosse team, popular but still not sanctioned by the college, finishes the season undefeated.

The Class of '51 elects its new officers: James Arnold, President; Paul Strickler, Vice-President; Jane Lehmer, Secretary; and Lawrence Lichtenstein, Treasurer. Student Senate also elects new officers: George Mooradian, President; Robert Hobson, Vice-President; Joyce Ingham, Secretary; and Charles Cook, Treasurer. Dr. William Lonsdale Tayler, chair of the Political Science department, announces a one-year leave from campus. Seven students exhibit original artworks in Bosler Hall, as the College Choir is fitted for robes to replace their suit-and-tie uniforms.

The Dickinson Follies production "Out of the Red" will open the following Thursday, with huge crowds anticipated. The Inter-Fraternity Council adopts a new constitution. Nine junior women are tapped to join the Wheel and Chain Society. Popular pianists Ozan Marsh and Patricia Benkman give a free recital to Dickinson students. The D Club will hold an evening of wrestling and boxing, featuring the "Masked Marvel" the night of publication.

Coach Dave Kirk of the Physical Education Department announces that he will resign his post at the end of the year in order to take a job at Friend's Central School in Philadelphia. The Spring Formal, scheduled for the night of publication, will feature two bands and follow a Spring Garden Party theme. In a special Founders' Day convocation ceremony, the College will award honorary degrees to Nora May Mohler and Judge Dorothy Kenyon. The Hornbook, The Belles Lettres Society's literary publication, will go on sale the following week.
