Dickinson College

Doctor Reed gives year opening address.  German professor Dr. Prettyman to take a year off for study and travel.  Ladies of the class of 1913 host informal reception for the Sophomore men in Assembly Hall.  First meeting of Student Assembly held in Bosler Hall, addressed by Dr. Reed.  Plan to add subscription to The Dickinsonian to all students' bill proposed by President Clarkson and passed.  Sophomores successfully hang their poster, after a scrap with Freshmen.  Samuel Brown to temporarily replace Dr.

Chi Phi Fraternity forms a lawn tennis club.  A pickup game of baseball is played between Dickinsonians and residents of Carlisle, with the college students winning 25 to 1.  The faculty holds a stag dance at the house of Professor Little.  The baseball team loses to Franklin and Marshall 14 to 11, wins against Harrisburg's professional team 18 to 9, loses to Chambersburg 18 to 5, and then loses to Harrisburg 12 to 1.  The Belles Lettres Society holds their Sophomore Contest. 

Students are criticized for cutting recitations and chapel.  Tensions rise when a student is dismissed from the college, prompting an investigation and almost pushing the class year of which the student was a part to withdraw from the college.  The Belles Lettres Sophomore Contest is to be held.  The Union Philosophical Society decides not to have a sophomore contest this year.  The senior class holds Class Day, and the freshmen perf

The cane rush does not occur this year due to indifference from the lower class.  Interest is sparked for baseball again on campus. 

The need for fire escapes is discussed.  The Belles Lettres Society holds their anniversary.  The Alumni Association holds a reunion.

The Dickinson Alumni Association of Philadelphia holds a reunion.  The Union Philosophical Society decides not to hold an anniversary.  The Belles Lettres Society holds a debate on whether women should "be allowed to practice the learned professions."

The Scientific Society is to hold its annual election of officers.  Students return back from Dickinson late after winter break.

Discussion begins on introducing running water in the buildings on campus.  A stag dance is held under West College.  The Jolly Grubbers club is formed, which focuses on Epicureanism and confections.

Complaints are made against those who write in library books and carve their names into the wood around campus.  $30,000 in endowments is received by the college from an unnamed donor.

Over summer break, improvements are made to student residences.  A porch on the north side of East College is also removed.  Robert Emory Pattison, the Democratic candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania, visits Dickinson.  Fraternity rush is in full swing at Dickinson.  The college baseball team plays the freshman, winning 7 to 3.
