Student Affairs and Services Committee develops noise policy to be adopted on a trial basis. Director of Admission Larry Mench points to 12% application rate increase among high school students interested in Dickinson. Community service performed by sororities and fraternities highlighted. Priestley Award goes to Harold P. Furth, director of the Plasma Physics Laboratory at Princeton for his work in the physics of nuclear fusion. Isidor Isaac Rabi named commencement speaker.

Students are concerned about the tuition hike for the upcoming school year, raising from $13,540 to $14,650. English Professor Sharon O'Brien's newest book, "Willa Cather: The Emerging Voice," received rave reviews. The Coalition Against Apartheid (CAA) responds to student's criticisms against them. The Women's Swim Team won a big victory against Swarthmore. A new athletic society known as "Alpha Omicron Delta" was established as a new varsity club for athletes.

UTS, a phone service on campus, has been charging students unbeknownst to them for calls because the company was going through "reorganization problems." Professors Sharon O'Brien and Charles Barone were vociferous in their complaints against a proposed itinerary for a planned visit by Attorney General Edwin Meese III. The College plans on building a new wall along High Street to eliminate hazardous crossings. A symposium is planned to celebrate Tome's centennial.

In this issue, "The Dickinsonian" recently received an honor rating of "First Class" by the Associated Collegiate Press. A previous error in an All-College Committee election declared Mark Sundback's position void, but a resolution was passed that allowed Mark Sundback to resume his elected position despite the past restrictions. An article discusses the supposed lack of interest for journalism courses, Professor Sharon O'Brien speaks out in favor of journalism.

Dickinsonian, July 31, 1975

The school will throw its first annual McKenney Cotillion all-college party for summer school students. Nancy L. Winkleman is appointed director of publications and is the first woman named to that position. The first step in renovations of the dining hall begin with the laying of new carpeting. President Banks will address senior officers at the U.S. Army War College as the first guest lecturer of the year.
