Freshman Hazing

Dickinson defeats Swarthmore in the Fourth Intercollegiate Oratorical Contest.  The Junior physics class went to study the organ in Allison M. E. Church.  Rev. Samuel Parkes Cadman gives an excellent lecture.  The combined musical clubs give a concert at Shippensburg.  Dr. W. V. Kelley's lecture on Browning is a success.  Mid-winter sports exhibition held.  New Dickinsonian board announced.  Editor responds to hazing controversy.  1912 Microcosm board members announced. 

Work begins on the new Phi Delta Theta colonial house. Distribution and sale of the 1932 Microcosm will take place in Bosler starting next week. Senate approves the 1931-1932 budget and passes two new rules involving elections. Founder's Day breakfast will be held by YWCA. The freshman badges for next year will be metal instead of paste-board cards.

The German Club's showing of the film "Anna Christie" brings in $120.29 to be added to the travel fund that will allow students to travel to Germany. A new Dickinson alumni club will be forming in New Jersey. Six college students, including representatives from Dickinson, are collecting 1,000,000 signatures annually to pledge total abstinence from intoxicating beverages. Three men from the Dickinson basketball team are chosen to be members of the Franklin and Marshall honor team. In their first inter-collegiate swim meet, the Dickinsonians emerge victorious.

The '55 Microcosm is being prepared so that it will be released by May 15. In addition to the usual content of senior portraits, family portraits, organizations, fraternities and sports articles, there will be a "features" section and a whole new layout. The Christian Service Project chapter of Dickinson College will headed to a few stops in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to teach Sunday School classes, attend worship services and participate in a panel for a Youth Fellowship meeting. Freshmen hazing nears its end with the introduction of a new group who controls hazing rules.

Four Dickinson representatives attended Danforth Foundation's Summer Workshop on Liberal Education and returned with suggestions for a new work-study program and curriculum changes. Contractor's miscalculations lead to delay in construction of Spahr Library's interior, delays bookwalk. ODK annual Leadership Conference planned for October 7 with theme of "Liberal Arts Education at Dickinson: Present Condition and Future Direction." A history of the partitioning of Palestine written by Jerry Weiner. New Peter, Paul, and Mary album reviewed. Chuch Strum previews the coming school year.
