Traveler/self-educated savant/newsboy/bum Samuel H. "King" Cole passes through campus to collect autographs to add to his fifty-volume set of the people he meets, which includes Neville Chamberlain, King George VI, and President F.D. Roosevelt. Colonel Philip Mathews, supervisor of the Works Progress Association, is announced as speaker at the annual Union Philosophical Society banquet. Edgar Washabaugh, one of the ten students training in personal flight with the Civil Aeronautics Authority, is the first of that group to fly solo across the country.

In this edition, at least sixteen faculty members expressed with a petition a wish to end the pass/fail option. Professors Alan Kranz and Ann Mathews will be living on campus in student dorms due to the overcrowding on campus. A misprint in the College's catalogs cost around $4,000 to reprint. A new ID system for the dining hall has been issued to try to reduce the amount of students who abuse the system. College issues $5 million bond to finance the renovations of the Alumni Gymnasium and the Kline Center. Women's Field Hockey begins its season.

Dickinsonian, October 23, 1970

Pass/ fail options, freshmen grades, and general grading systems are discussed at an open hearing held by the Academic Standards Committee who are currently evaluating the grading system. An IPR subcommittee proposes to implement a college legislative body consisting of faculty, students, and administrators. Renovation of the Durbin Oratory is completed to make the chapel more appropriate for all worship and a re-dedication ceremony will follow. The college will open ATS for experimental use in February.

President Rubendall officially declares the school year open with article describing the atmosphere of Dickinson and what students can do to contribute to it. Analysis of Spring 1963 grades. Student Senate announces new student book exchange program and new committee room in Denny Hall. New art professor, George Tomko, introduced. Republican State Chairman Craig Truax spoke at the Young Republican kickoff rally.

The Dickinsonian takes third place in national competition. Alpha Psi Omega admits three top drama students. Eero Saarinen receives Dickinson Art Award. A holiday concert will be given by the college choir. Thirty attend a leadership gathering given by Omicron Delta Kappa. Student Senate seeks the results of a survey regarding a new grading system.
