Five Dickinson fraternities participated in the annual Red Cross Drive of Carlisle, collecting money for the organization. The Communications Committee had it first meeting to discuss campus issues including the College's gift to the Allison Methodist Church, the Student Activities Building and accuracy of reports in the Dickinsonian. Following a vote by Student Senate, a committee will be created to be involved in plans for the proposed Student Center.

New officers of Omicron Delta Kappa are elected for the new year, naming Donald Taylor as president. Dr. Ward Miner to give a talk on novelist William Faulkner in an upcoming Belles Lettres meeting. The College helps with event plans for the celebration of the bicentennial of Cumberland County and the Borough of Carlisle. Omicron Delta Kappa, National Honorary Leadership fraternity, will hold its First Annual Leadership Dinner in April. The Student Senate hears of the Board of Trustees refusal for the establishment of a campus radio statement. The Inter-Fraternity Council receives independence from the Student Senate. Rush ends and 126 freshmen men pledge fraternities including Alpha Chi Rho, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Sigma, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Epsilon Pi, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi and Theta Chi. The Dickinson Law School begins to require all applicants for admission to take the Law School Admissions Test. The annual trip to the UN is scheduled for October 17 and 18 which will allow students to attend a General Assembly session. A new Methodist church is being built on Benjamin Rush Campus. Parents' Day will be observed on October 16.

A discussion on Dickinson's Honor Code will be sponsored by Danforth and Omicron Delta Kappa. All sororities and some fraternities are to hold Christmas parties for the underprivileged children of Carlisle. The Dickinson College Choir will be filmed performing in Harrisburg and broadcast on WHP TV.

Dickinson makes one million dollar commitment to improving college scientific equipment. Grants allow college to purchase microscopes among other equipment, scanning electron microscope donated by Dupont Inc. Possibility of a national drinking age by 1986 debated. Students support Oxfam with fast sponsored by the Chaplain's Office. Beta Theta Pi sponsors 'pole-sitting' marathon for Carlisle charity. Calvin Hill, former NFL player, speaks on the dangers of alcohol abuse and recreational drug use in the League and in society at-large.

Controversy surrounds the Finance Committee's budget for the fraternities and sororities for the 1988-89 school year, and several anonymous threatening letters were sent to members of the Finance Committee. Beta Theta Pi reversed their decision to withdraw from the Inter-Fraternity Council due to conflicts between the fraternity and the council, among other reasons. Freshman Dennis Albertson established a "national service fraternity" called Alpha Phi Omega and will be co-ed and open to both Greeks and Independents.

Tri-Delta or Delta Delta Delta has become Dickinson's sixth sorority. A group of academic professionals, headed by Nancy Mellerski, are set to examine the College's investments. BACCHUS (Boost Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students) is sponsoring Alcohol Awareness Week as part of a nationwide event. Beta Theta Pi's fraternity pole-sits for charity, Alpha Chi Rho raises money for Big-Little through a picnic and Kappa Alpha Theta raised funds for the American Cancer Society.

The all-college Student Affairs and Services Committee held an open discussion on the role alcohol plays on campus. The Beta Theta Pi fraternity's 24 hr polesitting marathon took place Friday and raised over$2000 for M.A.D.D. Author, Critic, and NYU professor Denis Donoghue presents "The Presence of the Past in the 18th Century" as the English department's Core Lecturer. The Library opens an exhibit entitled "A Thousand Days: The Kennedy Presidency" to mark the 20th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination.

The Ruckus committee displayed a giant bra between the library and Montgomery House to raise awareness of student artwork. The Beta Theta Pi fraternity received the President's Cup for outstanding contributions to campus life. Women's Field Hockey is continuing to do well. The Board of Trustees decided to raise the fund raising goal. An explosion from the College's "number one boiler" caused a short term loss of hot water and heat in some dorms.

Three fraternities, Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Phi Epsilon Pi volunteered to be relocated due to overenrollment at the College and state that it has not had a negative effect on fraternity life. The Student Senate Priorities Committee unanimously recommended that a student organization office be created inside the HUB and after the Senate's approval, administrative approval is then needed. The idea of an honor code is being analyzed by the Academic Affairs Committee. Women's volleyball earned themselves a spot in the Middle Atlantic Conference tournament.

In this issue, College Chaplain John S. Reist has resigned to take up a teaching job in Kansas City. In light of Chaplain Reist's departure, a search committee has been formed to find another chaplain. The Special Olympics was held on Biddle Field this year, and fraternity Beta Theta Pi helped with the event. The Men's Lacrosse team earns its first victory after six previous loses.

Students plan picket for Other Players' show, claiming it is "in poor taste and pointless." Freshman Karen Smith to run as delegate to Democratic National Convention. As part of National Student Symposium on the Presidency, senior Steve Joseph is to meet Pres. Gerald Ford. The HUB will hold a forum on nuclear fusion power. In a decision that has College community "upset," Social Violations Hearing Board overturns a suspension toward two Beta Theta Pi brothers who "allegedly used smoke bombs" on two independents. Freshman Carol Olnick accepted as one of the first women to attend West Point Academy. 1976 Mock Convention will feature speeches by Rep. William Cohen and Rep. Frank Evans. A prank by two Beta Theta Pi brothers to a set of independents' rooms leads to near-fatal arson. This fall, Lower Quad is to become co-ed. "Eating Out" favorably reviews the Locker Room and the Rusty Nail.

A salary raise received by College Treasurer John Woltjen draws stark criticism from faculty. Cannonball Adderly will give a concert Sept. 20th with music being a mix of jazz and soul. President Rubendall greets the incoming freshman class and stresses honesty at the 202nd Convocation. Registrar Paul Anderson will leave the College after five years of service. President Rubendall announces personnel shifts: John Woltjen, formally business manager and treasurer will now be treasurer, Barry Gaal will be business manager, and Robert Belyea will be comptroller.
