Peace Corps

The Academic Planning and Standards Committee changes the wording on Dickinson diplomas for the first time since 1879. They now acknowledge women graduates as alumna instead of alumnus and state that the student has graduated with a degree in liberal arts and sciences as opposed to just philosophy. The DPS safety walk is a success and many parts on and around campus are recognized as needing more adequate lighting. A recent Peace Corps recruitment session attracts a record-breaking number of students not only for Dickinson but for Central Pennsylvania more generally as well.

The Student Senate unanimously reaffirms it stand for a unicameral all-College legislative body. Faculty approves two Consortium programs which will make study possible at the Mysore Institute through programs at the India Institute as well as in Harrisburg for the Harrisburg Urban Semester. WDCV's resolution to operate an FM station is presented through the Development and Communications Committee and endorsed by the Board of Trustees. A list of courses to be offered in summer school will be distributed.

The Agency for International Development held an interview with President Rubendall and Editor-in-Chief of the Dickinsonian David Totaro, during which Totaro was allowed to see the inside of the "White Building" next to South Campus. AID confirmed that the building was being used as a safe house for the Agency should a national security emergency occur. The Cultural Affairs committee is set to present the folk duo Ian and Sylva at the Gymnasium on Wednesday, March 20. Thomas Fornwalt will direct The Follies April presentation of "Kiss Me Kate".

A survey of the campus regarding the Vietnam War shows that most students and faculty want some sort of change in Vietnam policy. The Paul Butterfield Blues Band is set to play in the HUB Dining Hall for the Mid-Winter Concert. The Interfraternity Council set up an internal committee to coordinate service projects. Dickinsonian beats WDCV in annual football game. Arthur Hoppe analyzes the Bobby Kennedy campaign. Odetta Gordon is set to perform at the Carlisle Senior High Auditorium. Someone in Yale Library stacks has been biting and kissing unsuspecting women's feet.

Inter-fraternity Council writes rules to be enforced next semester. Pi Delta Epsilon initiates 8 members. Three seniors - Virginia Compton, Keith Cohick and Susie Teller - admitted to Peace Corps. Students praise study plan but criticize restricted electives of recent academic revisions. Physics department awarded $20,000 from National Science Foundation for new equipment. Lacrosse team upsets Franklin & Marshall while golf team loses. Baseball team beats University of Pittsburgh to break nine game losing streak.

In this issue, Rush Week of 1962 closed with 190 fraternity affiliations, resulting in a Dickinsonian editorial praising the new rush process instituted by the Interfraternity Council. Dr. Howard L. Rubendall announced that Althouse was to receive a rooftop observatory. Dr. George Shuman, Jr., resigned as the college's development director. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is to play at Carlisle High School as part of Dickinson's Cultural Affair series. An agent from the Peace Corps will visit the college in order to talk to interested students.

In this issue the Dickinsonian celebrates its 90th birthday. College receives reaffirmation of accreditation with the MSA. Alums return for Homecoming festivities. Fraternities plan for an earlier rush. Various articles from previous Dickinsonians including a poll of students wishing for a third term for Pres. Franklin Roosevelt, Dolly Longsdorf first coed of Dickinson, Dickinson congratulated for its Syphilis exams. Cosi Fan Tutte performed by Turnau Opera Players. Dr. Harmon L. Smith to visit as speaker in the Religious Emphasis Program.
