An alumni reunion is held in Philadelphia. Union Philosophical Society celebrates its 87th anniversary. Charles F. Robbins, student, dies of typhoid fever, to which an article is written in memoriam.  The Belles Lettres Society and the Sigma Chi Fraternity also present their condolences. The Belles Lettres Society celebrates its 90th anniversary.  An instance of a duel that almost took place in the 1850s is recounted by an alumni.

Dickinsonian, December 1886

Phi Beta Kappa is granted a charter for Dickinson College.  The football program comes under scrutiny after the death of E. Herbert Garrison the previous month.  Rumors fly around the school regarding the admittance of a "colored boy" in the Preparatory School, as well as the hazing of a Freshman student the previous month as a punishment for honorable conduct.

Dickinsonian, November 1886

Strong censure is placed on some members of the Freshmen class after they haze a fellow first-year student as punishment for attending recitation on time.  A Mr. W. C. Allison of Philadelphia donates funds so that Memorial Hall can be heated in the winter.  Dickinson loses a football game to Lehigh 0 to 26, and against Lafayette 24 to 5.  E.

Dickinsonian, March 1, 1924

A sophomore student Harry Frycklund dies from pneumonia at the age of 20. An audit by the bursar of the Athletic Association shows that the football program is operating at a deficit. Tentative plans for commencement, including several class reunions, are announced. Professor Ernest Albert Vuilleumier presents a paper that he translated from German on the electrodeposition of metals to the American Electrochemical Society on Philadelphia. Belles Lettres elects new officers.

Senior Isabel Super dies of complications following appendicitis operation. Professional acts and favors to freshman are eliminated from rushing program. Microcosm awards contracts. Thre Dickinson freshmen were killed and a fourth critically injured in an automobile accident in Carlisle. Author Dr. Karlis Leyasmeyer to come to Dickinson to speak about Russia. College Board of Trustees vote to adopt a resolution endorsing the Select Committee Report on Greek Life. Official investigation into student's death is completed. In light of charges brought against Alpha Chi Rho for their involvement in the accident, the fraternity pleads guilty and the chapter is suspended indefinitely. Committees to discuss plan to alter the weekly schedule. The Conventional Theater puts on a production of "Talking With", with both students and professors performing.

Freshman Steven Butterworth dies from major head injuries after falling out of a 3rd story window at the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity the night before. All campus alcohol related activities banned indefinitely. IFC suspends all membership privileges to the fraternity pending further investigation. President-elect Dr. A. Lee Fritschler comments upon various areas of the College that he wants to improve once he becomes president. A memorial stained-glass window was installed in Bosler dedicated to the death of students Christine Major, '86 and John Buonocore, '87, as well as other Dickinsonians, faculty and students, who have passed away. The College acquired a limestone quarry in order to protect the supply and possibly use the stone for more buildings. Women's Tennis completed their season by becoming champions of the Southwest League of the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Work still continues on the wall surrounding Morgan Field. Several alcohol incidents that ended in hospital trips for freshman students caused the Resident Assistants to create new policies on alcohol use. The dining hall renovations have be put on hold due to limited financial resources and construction happening elsewhere on campus. The Geology and Psychology departments start to move into what becomes known as the Benjamin D. James Center. The year's freshman classes is yet again the largest in the history of the College and also of a higher quality than previous years.

A memorial service was held for students Christine Allison Major, who died of cancer and John Joseph Buonocore, who was killed by terrorists in Rome. Both passed away over Christmas break. Newly elected Inter-Fraternity Council members are as follows: Michael Hoffman, president, Tom Monaghan, vice-president, and Chris Erwin, historian. A number of break-ins over Christmas break totaled to $1,130 worth of damages and missing property. The Liquor Control Board passed a law that limits the Happy Hour policy at bars in Pennsylvania.

The PEER (Program for Enrichment, Education, and Recreation), a program for underprivileged children in the Carlisle community, began Wednesday with movies and field studies. United Phone is set to allow the use of credit cards for long distance calls on campus. The Freshman Colloquium for the 1968-69 school year will focus on the concept of time. William Miller, a non-matriculated Dickinson student, was found dead in the Conodoguinet Creek near Camp Hill on June 18.
