Dickinsonian, January 18, 1905

Philadelphia Club holds banquet.  The annual Day of Prayer will be observed.  Trustee Alex H. Patton, leaves $10,000. Phi Kappa Sigma attends convention in Baltimore. The old piano in Bosler hall is replaced.  Sigma Alpha Epsilon attends its national convention in Memphis, Tennessee. Phi Delta Theta attended their convention in Indianapolis and holds their banquet in Harrisburg. The roof of Denny Hall is completed.

Carlisle Indians defeat Dickinson in baseball. Dickinson is defeated by State College in the state track meet. The 1900 Microcosm becomes available to students. Article on the career of Dr. Price. Alumni plan publication of "The Dickinson Alumnus", a new alumni paper to be published monthly. Three women from the College as well as two other Carlisle residents suffer injuries after assault by "acid throwers". Dramatic Club plans season. Professor Norcross elected head of Pennsylvania Kiwanis. Sigma Alpha Epsilon buys Sadler Mansion, to be used as new chapter quarters. Negotiations pending for purchase of a new athletic field house near Biddle Field. Renovated space in West College to be used by college organizations.

Dickinsonian, April 3, 1941

The eighth annual Guest Day for prospective students and their families is planned. A ten minute period between classes and an amendment to Chapel policies are implemented at the recent faculty meeting to help to eliminate student tardiness issues. Women's intramural spring activities are planned including an interclass badminton tournament which would allow the winning women's team to battle men's teams. The first social event to occur between the Dickinson and Gettysburg chapters of Sigma Alpha Epsilon is held in the form of an informal dance.

Hell Week for fraternity pledges leaves Phi Kappa Psi pledges sweeping walkways for active members, Sigma Chi pledges going back to freshman rules, Phi Delta Thetas conducting mass on Molly Pitcher's grave and Sigma Alpha Epsilon pledges carting actives around like horses. Four students are admitted into Phi Beta Kappa and three more into Omicron Delta Kappa. President Fred Pierce Corson tells all students present in chapel that it is essential to read the bible as a part of a national effort to promote religion in colleges.

Dickinsonian, December 12, 1940

Sigma Alpha Epsilon will hold a Christmas party for needy children in the Carlisle area featuring a dinner, a trip to the movies and a gift. It is hoped that this will become and annual event. The Sociology Department announces the creation of a new award, the Gaylord H. Patterson Prize, to be awarded annually to the upperclassman who writes the best essay on public policy. The award commemorates the late professor Patterson and is valued at twenty five dollars. The Winter Edition of the 1940 Hornbook comes out.

Dickinsonian, May 2, 1940

The Province Convention of Sigma Alpha Epsilon comes to Dickinson for the first time, with an expected attendance of nearly 200 delegates and alumni. Little Jack Little is announced as the entertainment at the annual Senior Prom. Skull and Key taps nine sophomores for membership, while Wheel and Chain picks eight juniors. The demolition of certain parts of Bosler Hall, now complete, reveals the location of a long-forgotten College cistern and unearths two lost pieces of administrative documentation.

Klein S. Merriman received the Class of 1902 Award for being the all-around Dickinsonian of the Junior class. The Greek Club initiates seven new members. W3YC, Dickinson’s amateur radio station, enters an international radio contest. Sigma Alpha Epsilon celebrates the 79th anniversary of its founding. The Women’s Glee Club plans a new program. The Dickinsonian conducts a student poll on national politics. The Debate Team ties with State College. Omicron Delta Kappa revises their newly proposed student plan and awaits student approval.

Lambda Sigma Pi elects eight new members. Union Philosophical Society to discuss "war aims" in their next meeting. A Student Opinion Surveys of America poll reveals that three of every five women are volunteering with civilian defense activities, but less than three of ten men, not already in the Armed Services, are helping with defense duties. Mid-Winter Ball was attended by 130 couples or 260 students. Three seniors elected to join Phi Beta Kappa.

Committee recommends that college end its policy on extra-curricular activities requiring participation with limits on number of activities as student may participate with. The thirty-one students arrested last week have each been ordered to pay a fine of $1.62. Dickinson's first all-college choir is created. Editorial on possibility of drafts and the role of education in men's lives. Dickinson's football team loses to Delaware 28-0. Inter-class badminton will be created for girls.

Five Dickinson fraternities participated in the annual Red Cross Drive of Carlisle, collecting money for the organization. The Communications Committee had it first meeting to discuss campus issues including the College's gift to the Allison Methodist Church, the Student Activities Building and accuracy of reports in the Dickinsonian. Following a vote by Student Senate, a committee will be created to be involved in plans for the proposed Student Center.

Rush ends and 126 freshmen men pledge fraternities including Alpha Chi Rho, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Sigma, Phi Delta Theta, Phi Epsilon Pi, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi and Theta Chi. The Dickinson Law School begins to require all applicants for admission to take the Law School Admissions Test. The annual trip to the UN is scheduled for October 17 and 18 which will allow students to attend a General Assembly session. A new Methodist church is being built on Benjamin Rush Campus. Parents' Day will be observed on October 16.
