Because of an unusual demand, the Board of Trustees is forced to give more money in student loans. Dickinson graduates are elected to state offices. Skull and Key holds its annual winter formal. Dickinson loses to Franklin and Marshall in basketball. The Dickinsonian elects a new editor-in-chief. The Dickinson School of Law is elected as a member of the Association of American Law Schools. The Young People’s Fellowship begins panels to discuss popular issues, the first of which is “What is wrong with the movies?” The Athletic Association will elect officers on Monday.

The Board of Trustees chooses Reverend Dr. Fred Pierce Corson to be the college’s twentieth president. The freshmen beat the sophomores in the Evening Scrap. In addition to choosing a new president, the Board of Trustees also created an alumni fund and a new scheme of athletic control. Senate Committees are appointed to govern sports, religion, and aspects of social life at the college. The all-college social committee presents C. Ray Smith and his Olvera Street Marionettes in "Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer" in Bosler Hall. The Executive Council and regional officers of the Pennsylvania Association of College Students meet in campus to discuss the upcoming state convention and the structure and purpose of the organization. The Board of Trustees votes to increase the athletic budget, raise graduation fees and introduce a student health fee. The Dramatic Club holds auditions for its second production of the academic year: Big Hearted Herbert. 

The class of 1895, under the leadership of William Clarke, constructs a gate at the northeast corner of campus.  Board of Trustees raises limit of college enrollment to 600; lowers number of women students to be admitted.  Dickinson Players perform A Full House. 

Trustee Lemuel T. Appold establishes Charles K. Mermaid Players to introduce new mobile box office system to travel between dorms, offering tickets at reduced price; wrap up their tour of Antigone with a final performance at Gettysburg College. President Edel announces that the Board of Trustees has approved the construction of three new college buildings on the Benjamin Rush Campus, including a student activities building, a men's dormitory, and a new science building. Prayer Chapel dedicated to honor former College president John Price Durbin.

Annual Dickinson College Campus Chest Drive begins, sponsored by Interfaith Council. Under the direction of Prof. John Steckbeck, the newly reorganized Dickinson College Choir plans programs for their fall season. Mermaid Players to perform "The Importance of Being Earnest". Board of Trustees to proceed with the construction of a Student Activities Building to replace the facilities lost by the collapse of the College Commons.

Dickinson College Band to play open-air concert; community sing to be part of concert. High School seniors to compete for Trustee Scholarships. Student musicians Robert Johannes and Joseph Rosenthal present concert in Bosler Hall. Pi Beta Phi wins Songfest competition. New plans for rushing have been presented to the faculty. Student Senate proposes fraternity-based scholarship plan to help foreign students study in the US. Little Theater's Othello opens. The Wheel and Chain Society tapped seven new members. President Edel has announced upcoming improvements to the College, approved by the Board of Trustees, that will cost as much as $200,000. These improvements will include: Physics Department facilities work, alterations of the library with the ultimate goal of it filling up Bosler Hall entirely, the move of the Music Department to the Psychology Building and of the Psychology Building to the former Church House.

Members of the fiftieth class of the Skull and Key Society were tapped. John Scott, contributing editor of TIME magazine, will speak at the Allison Methodist Church-Chapel. The College Social Committee is to present the end of the year formal, themed "April in Paris" and featuring musician Buddy Williams. The Student Center Committee have distributed a questionnaire to aid with the planning of the Center, proposed to begin construction by 1960.

Dr. William W. Edel will retire by March 1959 after 12 years as Dickinson's president. Similarly, Dr. Frank Ayres, head of the Math Department, announced that he will resign from Dickinson after 30 years of teaching. The Physics Department will receive a new department head, Dr. Henry Lincoln Yeagley, who comes from teaching at Penn State for 37 years. The "New South" snack bar opens in South College, featuring the special "Mermaid's Delight": a sponge cake with ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a cherry.

The Board of Trustees of the College to sponsor a special recognition dinner for faculty members who have served the College for twenty-five years or longer. Outline of Religion-In-Life events. Holiday Issue. Ogden Nash to appear on campus. The Ford Foundation donates over $400,000 to the college to help raise teachers' salaries. Sauter-Finegan Orchestra to play Mid-Winter Ball. The Board of Trustees speaks on Social Rule revision and leaves policy enforcement to President Edel.

The Student Senate hears of the Board of Trustees refusal for the establishment of a campus radio statement. The Inter-Fraternity Council receives independence from the Student Senate. Profile on Dr. Milton W. Eddy. Dickinson Swimming beats Drexel University. Beta Theta Pi and Phi Psi remain undefeated in the Inter-Fraternity League.

Famous trumpeter, Hank Hoffman will play in the band during Homecoming.The International Relations Club sponsors a U.N. display in the window of the Kronenberg clothing store. Professor Frank Ayres , Jr., announces his publication of a new math book. Dickinson alum General James G. Steese, a member of the Dickinson College Board of Trustees, speaks at chapel about various phases of his life.

The cornerstone of Morgan Hall is laid with items inside of it: "History of Dickinson College" by Dr. James Henry Morgan, a Dickinsonian, a college catalogue, a Microcosm, a copy of the alumni journal, a "D" book, student roster, Viewbook, Carlisle Sentinel and a folder from the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce. Seventeen ROTC cadets have been assigned to their specialized branches of the service. Dickinson receives an electron microscope from Mr. George Shuman and RCA which is now in Tome.

A member of the Biology Department, Dr. Elmer Herber, and one of his previous students, Howard Kline, are published in the 1954 edition of "Proceedings of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science" for their work with antibiotics. The Board of Trustees decides to allow seniors who do not meet their graduation requirements in time for their graduation to graduate as soon as they finish them instead of having to wait until the following June to do so. The Board also is looking into adding two more fraternities to campus to increase the strength of the fraternity program on campus.

The Mermaid Players announce their next production. "Our Town" will be performed December 1, 2 and 3 in Bosler Hall. The Aquatic Club is performing later this evening their interpretation of popular children's stories. The entire production is student produced from scenery and lights to costumes and publicity. The Alumni Council agreed to take action on athletic policies as requested by students in the previous issue of the Dickinsonian with the support of the Board of Trustees.

Outstanding visiting preachers will be visiting the chapel for worship services. Dickinson is holding a tax workshop to give business executives, bank representatives and other interested people a chance to familiarize themselves with new tax laws. These tax revisions are the greatest revisions in the history of federal taxation. The Mermaid Players will be performing "Lo and Behold" on Parents' Weekend (October 14-16) in Bosler Hall. Beginning October 6, music programs will be taking place daily in the Sharp Room in the library. This week there will be a piano quintet and a symphony.

Boyd Lee Spahr, former President of the College and then-President of the Board of Trustees, donates funds to build a cupola atop South College. Track star Gil Dodds visits campus and speaks on his experiences. The Bridge Club is invited to compete against 300 other colleges in the National Intercollegiate Bridge Tournament. A Valentine's Day theme is set for the February 10 Mid-Winter Ball, as twelve female students compete for the title of Ball Queen.

The Board of Trustees meets in Philadelphia and okays plans to establish a College radio station, creating a Committee on Radio to handle the task. The Board also approves plans to enlarge the stage and dressing rooms at Metzger Hall, announces that progress on a new girls' dormitory will be made public soon, and establishes the Agnes Sterrett Woods Prize, to be awarded to the female student who submits the best short story or essay.

College Board of Trustees vote to adopt a resolution endorsing the Select Committee Report on Greek Life. Official investigation into student's death is completed. In light of charges brought against Alpha Chi Rho for their involvement in the accident, the fraternity pleads guilty and the chapter is suspended indefinitely. Committees to discuss plan to alter the weekly schedule. The Conventional Theater puts on a production of "Talking With", with both students and professors performing.
