Philanthropist and financial donor, Mary Louise D'Olier Shuman passed away recently in Carlisle. Residence halls are equipped for cable and internet. Associate Professor of Classical Studies, Mary Moser passed away over the summer in Carlisle. Professor of Comparative Civilizations, Vytautas Kavolis passed away over the summer while conducting research in Lithuania. The Clarke Center is bringing the 3rd Annual Pennsylvania Environmental Congress to the Dickinson campus. Article describing the Convocation ceremony. Dickinsonian, August 13, 1971

The Drug Grant Group completes and submits their proposal for federal funding from the Office of Education for a drug education program and will receive an answer in two weeks. Renovations of Morgan Hall near completion. Dean of Men Steven Markwook and Dean of Women Mary Watson attend a very beneficial leadership conference. PEER is assured a $300 grant from the United Fund to continue their program next summer. Findings of the NSF funded pollution project are compiled and presented.

Workmen resume cutting down trees after a student protest halted work for two days. Extensive discussion of student opposition to cutting down trees highlighted the first faculty meeting of the year. The Senate will change its committee structure by dissolving some committees whose duties overlap those of college committees. 35 random freshmen were invited to Dean Hawkins first Fireside Chat. The first in a series of articles on the results of a study conducted by the Institutional Priorities and Resources committee for the Allenberry trustee conference is presented.

Senate approves a proposal for coed living units in Todd and Mathews houses with the first two floors for men and the rest for women. SDS questions business manager Bloodgood on campus working conditions and wages. The College receives a federal grant providing for community service and continuing education programs under Title I of the Higher Education Act for their program "The Carlisle Education-Action Program for Housing." The College fine arts department will hold an Indian Arts Festival. NSA and NAS consider financial merger.

Dickinsonian, October 31, 1969

The Student Senate formed a budget with a high allotment for the student activity fund. The Red Devils' win over Muhlengerg College moves them into first place in the Southern Division of the Middle Atlantic Conference, College division for football. SMC calls for students to strike on Nov. 14, the day before the nationwide marches on DC, in protest of the Vietnam conflict. Construction of ATS began two months ago and is expected to be completed for fall 1970.

The Student Senate holds its first meeting of the year with much discussion of dorm autonomy. The Student Mobilization Committee the end the War in Vietnam had its first meeting. The IFC has now become the Presidents' Council to meet a modern need. The All-College Committee on Fraternities was dissolved. An outline of the Student Senate's plans for the upcoming year are discussed. The first session of summer transition was held. Students failed in a test of self-regulation over summer school. The Mermaid players will open this season with a production of Richard III.

Dickinsonian, September 19, 1969

The Student Affairs Committee will deal with disputed Social Rules between students and Deans by hearing individual appeals. President representatives from each woman's dorm have come together to form the Women's Presidents' Council to stay consistent on social rules and regulations such as curfews. A document compiling and interpreting the "Rights and Limitations on Speech and Assembly" has been distributed by the Dauphin County Legal Service Association.

Dickinson faculty has met and adopted condition of the establishment of Social Rules and students are asked to vote on the ratification of the 11 proposals which include co-ed hours in dorms, alcohol consumption, and disciplinary actions for rule violations. Students are also asked for suggestions for a student honor system. Federico Fellini's "8 1/2" starring Marcello Mastrioanni will be shown. The article discusses the plot of the movie and the issues represented through symbolism in the film.

Female students will be allowed above the first floor of all men's residence halls from 7:30 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, Oct. 26 to collect donations for the 1965 endowment fund. Opposition to Governor Scranton's "Operation Focus" anti-poverty program is discussed. Editor Maurice Girodais's "The Olympia Reader", a book containing many stories considered to be pornographic, is to be published. ODK will offer an annual Songfest. Final changes to the 1965-66 Social Rules were agreed upon by a faculty sub-committee based upon senate requests.
