The Women’s Glee Club performs for the Carlisle Civic Club. The basketball team defeats Bucknell. The Debate Team will face off with State College. Prayer Week begins. There is a change in the cast of the Dramatic Club play. The Men’s Glee Club is to begin a series of concerts.
The basketball team wins in a game against Gettysburg. A German exchange student states his opinions of the college. Dr. Phillips Packer Elliott is to lead the Dickinson Week of Prayer. Five members of the faculty play in a basketball game. Omicron Delta Kappa presents a plan to form a new central Student Senate to take on the duties of the current senate. The Women’s Glee club will perform for the American Association of University Women. The Dickinson P.A.C.S. cabinet reports its student appointees, and supports a petition for student absentee voting in Pennsylvania elections.
Fraternities hold initiation. The Junior class holds their annual dance for the first time in three years, and invitation is extended to all classes. The Women’s Glee Club prepares for three future performances. Arthur D. Kahler, from Brown University, is selected to be the new football coach. The Dramatic Club holds tryouts for its new plays. The Tribunal committee of the Men’s Senate will sponsor the annual Freshman-Sophomore scrap. The Debate Team wins against Muhlenberg. The Greek Club presents a program on Drama. The Library displays a collection of Persian art.
Because of further misconduct, the Tribunal committee reinstates the recently removed Freshmen rules. First treasurer of the League of Nations Secretariat Sir Herbert Ames speaks to the college about the role of the League of Nations in the post-war era. The Dramatic Club has a new regular meeting place, and will be presenting Death Takes a Holiday before the winter break. The Greek Club will portray school life in ancient Greece in their next meeting. The Women’s Senate plans a tentative schedule for the events of the year.
Six freshmen are punished for violating the Freshman Rules and neglecting other duties. A sophomore studies a local cave and disproves several local myths. The college begins to offer courses aimed at educating Sunday School teachers. An article talks about how much money the Senate spent on small trinkets and rewards for students. The football team ties with Ursinus. The Women’s Senate calls for an all-College Senate to solve the issue of the Men’s Senate making decisions for everyone on campus.
The football team loses to Albright. The Sophomore Vigilance Committee, with a new chairman, will be in charge of enforcing the freshmen rules. The schedule for the Homecoming program is announced. The Dramatic Club announces that its first production of the year will be Death Takes a Holiday. At the end of the rushing season, the fraternities pledge a total of seventy-six men. The soccer team loses to West Chester.
President Corson begins his term in office. The sophomore class wins the annual freshman-sophomore flag scrap. The Athletic Board decides to institute a student price for football tickets. The football team ties Hobart in the first game of the season. It is announced that the French exchange student has arrived on campus, and relates her criticisms of the US. A grant has made it possible for Dickinson to pay sixty-eight part-time student workers. The Omicron chapter of Sigma Chi will celebrate its 75th anniversary at Dickinson this year. The retiring president, Dr.
International Relations Club planned. Dramatic Club performs "The Millionaire".
The annual Commencement issue honors the class of 1936. Honorary degrees are presented to Vice-Admiral Arthur Jay Hepburn, Judge W.A. Valentine, Rev. Roy N. Keiser, and Rev. George Henry Ketterer. Twenty-eight students, including one woman, receive Bachelor of Law degrees. The Dickinsonian enters the Associated Collegiate Press Spring Contest and receives an all-American rating. Eight men are inducted into the national honorary fraternity Omicron Delta Kappa. The Dramatic Club's presentation of Torch-bearers opens in Bosler Hall.
The All-College Social Committee plans "Leap Year Week" at the urging of students. During this week, several events for women are planned, culminating in the Pan Hellenic Dance on April 4. The Dramatic Club holds auditions for their final production of the year: Torch-Bearers. The college raises money to benefit the communities around Harrisburg affected by a recent flood. The Dramatic Club presents their past production Big Hearted Herbert at the Carlisle High School to raise money for the American Red Cross and flood relief.
The Dramatic Club's production of Big Hearted Herbert, a three-act comedy by Sophie Kerr, opens in Bosler Hall with much praise. The Protestant branch of the Religious Association holds elections.
The all-college social committee presents C. Ray Smith and his Olvera Street Marionettes in "Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer" in Bosler Hall. The Executive Council and regional officers of the Pennsylvania Association of College Students meet in campus to discuss the upcoming state convention and the structure and purpose of the organization. The Board of Trustees votes to increase the athletic budget, raise graduation fees and introduce a student health fee. The Dramatic Club holds auditions for its second production of the academic year: Big Hearted Herbert.
The first Dad's Day is held, in which fathers of all students are invited to visit campus. A similar event for mothers has been held for several years. The Dramatic Club casts their production of The Goose Hangs High, to be performed in December. Women's physical education regulations change such that if all requirements are met satisfactorily by a student at the end of her junior year, she will be exempt from particpating in physical education during her senior year.
Alumni Day is planned. Tau Kappa Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa add members from graduating class. Four alumni trustees are elected: Merkel Landis, Robert Y. Stuart, Lewis M. Bacon Jr., and S. Walter Stauffer. Dr. Francis A. Waterhouse and Professor C. W.
The theme for the first annual student conference of Eastern Pennsylvania Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A. is "Jesus: What is His part in my life?". The Dramatic Club will present two one-act plays--The Goose With the Golden Egg, with an all-freshman cast, and Mr. X, featuring an all-sophomore cast. The Y.W.C.A. and Women's Senate will host the annual Doll Show. The Chemistry department praises the collections held in the Scientific Museum in Tome. Impressionist William S. Battis will portray classic Dickens characters. The basketball season will open with a match against Princeton.
The Commencement issue of the Dickinsonian. All of the fraternities elect new officers. Dr. William D. Gould will take the faculty position vacated by the death of Professor Leon Prince. Dr. Walter A. Jessup will give the Commencement Address. Seven people will be awarded honorary degrees, including President Corson and Zatae L. Straw, the first woman to graduate from Dickinson College. This year is the 50th anniversary of Coeducation at Dickinson College. The All-College Senate voted to dispel class officer positions, with the exception of the senior class.
The seniors are honored in a five day program, including addresses and the academic procession. The baseball team ended their losing streak in a victory against Delaware. This year is the fiftieth anniversary of the graduation of the first woman of Dickinson College. A Dickinson songbook is completed, containing all of the songs of Dickinson College. The Student Senate chooses new leaders for the coming year. The track team wins against Gettysburg. The Dramatic Club holds elections and revises its constitution. The baseball team loses to Gettysburg.
The Microcosm announces its newly revised staff. At a faculty meeting, it is decided that students with an average 90% and higher will be granted an unlimited number of absences, given that they maintain their A average. The Dramatic Club presents its newest show, a comedy entitled The Royal Family. A student calculates the statistical chances you will have at any given time of the day to succeed at getting a call through to one of the young ladies at Metzger Hall.
The Debate Team loses the first debate of the season. A date for the premiere of the Dramatic Club’s play The Royal Family is set. An article is found explaining that Dickinson was the beneficiary of the lottery in 1790. The All-College Social Committee plans a Pan-Hellenic week. An article relates the truth about American patriotism. A local entomologist discusses the harmful insects in the region. The Theological Society has converted the old commuter’s room in the basement of Old West into a religious center.
Robert L. Myers gives a talk on the newly enacted Social Security Act and unemployment in the country. After buying the adjacent properties, Dickinson plans to enlarge Biddle Field. The Debate Team schedule is posted. Fraternities and Sororities induct new members. In an effort to make peace between the two schools, an article suggests that Gettysburg students be allowed to attend Dickinson’s Junior Prom. The French Club holds a Winter Tea Dance. The Social Service Club works on mending books for a Salvation Army library.
Plans for the content of this year’s Microcosm are expanded. The Dramatic Club has started rehearsing for its next production, The Royal Family. The Student Senate discusses ways to create a better relationship between Gettysburg and Dickinson and how to increase scholarship among the freshmen. Plans to convert Moore house into a modern biology lab, to be called the Baird Biology Lab, are finally approved. Dr. Leon Cushing Prince, beloved teacher and scholar, passed away Sunday. The Dickinson Bowling team has won seven games in a row.
The Dickinson Women’s Choir gives a performance of Handel’s Messiah at a local church. The Dramatic Club will present A Doll’s House at the end of January. A Professor of Surgery gives a talk on the causes of cancer to the Mohler Scientific Club. The basketball team is the first team to play against Roanoke in any sport. The Dickinson basketball team loses to Princeton.
The newly-formed Theological Society holds their first meeting. The Dramatic Club is to present “A Doll’s House.” The football team beats Haverford.
The “Elect-Landon” club holds its first and only pre-election meeting. The Dramatic Club considers a play with a murder-mystery plot. The Tribunal punishes more freshmen, both men and women, for disobeying the Freshmen Rules. The Dickinson Democratic Club holds their final meeting. Dickinson decides to abolish class offices, as it hinders the advance of the college. The football team beats Swarthmore in the Homecoming game. The women’s Interclass hockey schedule is posted.
Forty-seven Dickinson men compete for a space on the Debate Squad. The Homecoming program schedule is announced. The Greek Club has their first meeting of the year. Thoughts on the 1936 presidential candidates are given. News on President Roosevelt is also given. For the first time, the Dramatic Club will sponsor a musical play. The soccer team defeats Ursinus.
