A. J. "Dad" Elliot, a Christian leader, challenges students to engage more in Christian practices. Many freshmen, the registrar reveals, are related to former Dickinsonians. The annual Doll Show was held Dec. 16, 1932 and resulted in $40.00 being donated to the Shiremanstown Home along with dolls and other gifts. Raymond R. Brewer, Dickinson's representative at West China's Union University, will revisit the College. Fourteen graduates of the College were in China amidst civil unrest, but were able to leave without danger. Taylor and P.E. Smith earned first place medals in the two cross country races held for the T. Marshall West Awards. Women's Glee Club holds a rally in the Metzger Hall gymnasium. In response to the withdrawal from political cliques by two fraternities in the prior week, Theta Chi endorses a move for a reform of on campus politics.  The freshmen women of Metzger Hall with a B average are rewarded with the freedom to go out on all nights of the week exluding Monday, on which all students are bound to their living quarters.

Members of the Sophomore class kidnap the Freshmen class president the day before the Freshman Hop dance.  1895 Dickinson Alumnus William "Billy" Clarke expresses approval and nostalgia, confirming the tradition.  The Glee Club debuts its spring concert series.  Students organize a new German club aiming to enable fluency among members.  The coeds of Metzger ponder on the future home of their only male resident, a dog named Dapper.

German Naval Commander Count Felix Von Luckner gives a thrilling lecture to a packed crowd.  College Sophomore Russel Spinney is caught delivering a false story to a local barber involving his near drowning.  The story is published in the Carlisle Evening Sentinel.  A number of coeds consider abandoning education for Hollywood.

Two stray cats have occupied the dorm rooms of Metzger Hall.  Judge M.W. Jacobs, professor of Equity on the original Law school faculty, passes away.  Dickinson's basketball team loses a close game to Army.

The All-College Social committee has changed the date of the college picnic, much to the chagrin of the students.  The Senior Blazer committee calls upon seniors to be measured for their jackets.  New rules lightening the strict regulations regarding social privileges and required classes for coeds at Metzger Hall are proposed by Dean Josephine B. Meredith and enacted by a 75% vote.  The Union Philosophical Society will select its candidates from among the new freshmen class.

The Dickinsonian begins its 56th year of publication, noting its roots as a literary magazine under the Belles Lettres and Union Philosophical Literary societies.  Mervin Grant Filler is elected 18th president of the college, filling the vacancy of the newly resigned Dr. James Henry Morgan, while Professor Montgomery Porter Sellers takes deanship.  William Trickett, who served as Dean of the Law School for 38 years, dies of influenza.  Metzger Hall is modernized, both inside and out.  The football team prepares to start their season with scrimmages on Biddle Field.

The Microcosm announces its newly revised staff. At a faculty meeting, it is decided that students with an average 90% and higher will be granted an unlimited number of absences, given that they maintain their A average. The Dramatic Club presents its newest show, a comedy entitled The Royal Family. A student calculates the statistical chances you will have at any given time of the day to succeed at getting a call through to one of the young ladies at Metzger Hall.

Carlisle has a practice air raid, an article lists the improvements that Carlisle needs to make. Robert C. Deitz '41 is the first person from Dickinson believed to be lost in World War II--he is reported as missing in action and presumed to be dead. Dickinson's Board of Trustees has approved the plan to purchase $85,000 of United States Defense Bonds for the endowment fund. Article on how students, specifically the residents of Metzger Hall, are dealing with the United States' declaration of war. A University of Texas poll reveals that 50% of girls want to become housewives.

A joint-committee is created to organize and coordinate extra-curricular activities to to help with defense service or preparation. The most recent Student Opinion Surveys of America poll has revealed that students believe that war increases opportunities. The Red Cross to create a unit on Dickinson's campus which will be affiliated with the Carlisle branch. Plans are starting to be made in case of attack, specifically a mock air raid will be staged on Sunday (directions for the air raid are included in this issue). Metzger Hall held an open house for faculty last week.

The second annual Parents' Day, originally Dad's Day and extended last year to include both parents, is also being called Family Day in the hopes that a student's entire family will join in the festivities. A Student Opinion Surveys of America poll came out saying that most college men want to finish college before being inducted into the Army and that they would rather wait to be drafted than volunteer in the case of war. Alpha Sigma Gamma, the honorary journalistic fraternity, taps two new members. President Corson encourages students to read more often. A council is created for Conway Hall. Editorial on issue of female cheerleaders: the article calls for male and female involvement in cheerleading. Metzger Hall will revise its constitution in the coming year. Wheel and Chain continues its book drive for the Negro Community Center in Carlisle that formally opened on October 26. New mandatory class, "How to Make Good in College," created for Freshmen. Nation wide poll discovered that most American college students are opposed to changing the Neutrality Law to allow supply ships to be armed to enter war zones. Sororities gain new members as bids were accepted. The Dickinsonian will be involved in a nation-wide Student Opinion Surveys of America which will try to compile data on student's opinions (the first question will be "Are you for or against changing the neutrality laws so that American ships may be armed and sent into war zones?"). Reading periods created in each course to allow students the opportunity for more independent research. Thirty-one undergraduate men arrested during a celebratory march to Metzger Hall. At opening of the 169th academic year, students hear about the role of education in the nation's defense. Fraternity bids will be announced Tuesday. $10,333.04 was raised with the 6th Annual Dickinson College Alumni Fund Campaign. Dr. Doney and Dr. Norcross passed away over the summer. Dickinson has gotten 5 new faculty members due to deaths and absences created by national security measures. Thirty-two varsity lettermen from Dickinson are now serving in the US armed forces. Professor Wellman J. Warner addresses the Upsilon Circle of the Omicron Delta Kappa on the subject of "Leadership in a Free Society."  Belles Lettres and the French Club have Christmas parties.  The Dickinson Women's Choral Club and Allison Memorial Choir present "The Messiah" jointly at Allison Memorial Church.  Tau Delta Pi gives one-act play before Dramatic Club.  Miriam Saint Warner sings at chapel services.

Henry C. Hill, warden of the Federal Penitentiary in Lewisburg, gives speech on "The Problem of the Criminal" before the Young People's Fellowship at the Allison Memorial Methodist Church.  Johnny Bruner organizes a jazz band on campus composed of seven undergraduates.  The Dramatic Club continues to rehearse for "the Bat," set to perform the play on November 10.  Professor Horace E.

The Board of Trustees meets in Philadelphia and okays plans to establish a College radio station, creating a Committee on Radio to handle the task. The Board also approves plans to enlarge the stage and dressing rooms at Metzger Hall, announces that progress on a new girls' dormitory will be made public soon, and establishes the Agnes Sterrett Woods Prize, to be awarded to the female student who submits the best short story or essay.
